The Art Lab for you if….

You crave community and want to meet more curious, welcoming people.

You’re having trouble finding new ideas.

You have ideas, but are lost on making them reality.

You want to work more expansively and get a little uncomfortable.

You want to build a creativity habit.

You love education and want to be around lifelong learners.

If any of these struck a chord within you, The Art Lab was created with you in mind.

Your day job is irrelevant. We have homemakers, lawyers, health care workers, portrait photographers, teachers, and more in the group. Our common ground is our desire to connect more deeply with our personal work and come together in community.

Each month we have a prompt, learn about an artist, gather to chat on Facebook and over zoom, and have optional assignments to help us along the way.

Take a peek at the PDF for our David Bowie month!

Want to follow along with the same artists we’re learning about in The Art Lab? Now you get to!

Connection is at the heart of everything we do in The Art Lab.

We connect with The Greats, but we also connect with each other.

Internet friendships turn real.

Members fly across the country to meet up.

Members bump into one another on the street of a busy city and suddenly there’s a friendly face in the crowd (true story).

But this doesn’t just happen out of nowhere.

The international community is fostered intentionally.

Different schedules and time zones means I stay cognizant of varying times to accommodate people.

We zoom toward the beginning of the month to start brainstorming, and you all determine our times by voting.  I usually do 2 (or more!) zooms times to increase the probability group members can join.

We do the same at the end of the month.
Then I meet with people individually throughout the month.  I offer time slots from morning until evening just so I can ensure all of you have a chance to touch base with a guide who cares and understands this piece of you.

With all these Zooms and our Facebook group throughout the month, you have a community that you truly plug into.  People who know facets of you that not everyone else gets to see.  A safe space to be yourself and tap into your inner artist.

What Does A Month Look Like In The Art Lab?

Prompt Drop

On the 1st of each month the new artist will be presented in our private Facebook group. You will also receive a PDF with information about the artist, a proposed timeline for the month, optional assignments, and more.

During the Month

The Artists’ Collab is your support group*. Post anything you’re working on. Ask questions. Share your wins and losses.

Work on the assignments and weekly attentions that are contained in the PDF. Share with the group!

Often people will post things they run across like podcasts, books, or videos. Or they will share a technique they are embracing. It’s truly a beautiful community.

*We gather together in a private Facebook group!

Processing Zoom

We will vote for the date(s)/time(s) that we can meet to zoom. Depending on the way it shakes out, we will have 2-3 different zoom times. But if you miss it, don’t worry! It will be recorded and shared in the group for you to watch/listen at any time!

Post

There is a pre-determined date at the beginning of the month for our art pieces to go LIVE on Instagram! I used deadlines as a way to motivate and to make sure your creation actually gets put out into the world.

This has become my favorite day of the month! It’s always so exciting and invigorating!

Tea Time

This is 1-on-1 time where we can chat about the prompt or about anything, really. If you have a project you’d like to discuss or just want to talk creativity, I’m there for it.

These are in addition to or in lieu of attending a group meet. Anyone in the group can sign up!

Decompress

We have a decompress zoom in which we get to talk about how the month went. What was our process? What did we learn? What did we like or not like? How have we grown? It’s a great way to put closure on the prompt and process.

Once again, this is recorded for viewing, so if you miss it you can listen later!

What Is The Art Lab System?

The Art Lab System consists of education, inspiration, community, tasks, and accountability. It’s the necessary scaffolding for us to have a safe space to create.

You already know that creating without a jumping off point or deadlines is HARD. We don’t thrive when anything goes. Unlimited time to create and no real goal isn’t freedom, it’s chaos, and leaves us feeling paralyzed.

The Art Lab IS the artists collaborative that is greater than the sum of its parts. Not only are we collaborating with The Greats each month when we learn from them, but our Zooms, Facebook group, and Instagram posts are the outlets to toss our own flavors into the pot to add interest and complexity. We aren’t a one note dish precisely because of the community.

The mutual sharing gives us all ideas, inspiration, and motivation to try new things, level up, and follow through each month.

Group Mentorship + Community+ Support + Inspiration + Deadlines + Encouragement

"Art opens the closets, airs out the cellars and attics. It brings healing….(but) art requires a safe hatchery.”

- Julia Cameron

The Artists’ Collab is your safe hatchery.

Are You Ready?

The biggest hesitation I see is that people don’t feel ready to join, because they don’t think they’re at the level they need to be at to join.

I get it. The work the members create every month are RAD. They are pushing boundaries, thinking in new ways, and taking risks. But they are doing this precisely because of the group. It’s the structure of the group* that gets people to think outside the norm. And it’s the excuse of the group that makes people bold enough to try and post new things.

The group gives us permission to think in new ways and create art that feels out of our comfort zone.

You’re ready to join The Art Lab as soon as the inkling to join strikes you. The only prerequisite to join is to be creatively curious. The years you’ve spent on your craft or your skill level are irrelevant. All it takes is a desire to pour into the group and get something out of the group.

We’re all in a process of becoming, and The Art Lab is meant to guide you on that road.

*The community will take place in a closed Facebook group. You will receive a link to the group upon submission of payment. Sometimes people join without Facebook and I will send them the information via email throughout the month!
